Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Hey people!

I'm still in Dublin, Ireland, enjoying my stay here at $pachunka's home. It's really nice, the weather occasionally drizzling just the way I like it, and they city has this beautiful Celtic scent, which makes it mysterious yet inviting for exploration.

The new portfolio feature is also equivalently exciting, although there's nothing at the moment to see for end-users.

Also, I'm sure a lot of people reading this journal are interested in software development and web development related to deviantART; many of you have your own web sites where you use "dA stuff", or some are obsessed with writing Journal CSS and developing greasymonkey extensions, or even Firefox extensions. Although there's nothing yet we can announce, stay tuned, because I'm sure there are some marvelous things coming, right for you
